Species

Luminescent bacteria are divided into two genera: Photobacterium and Vibrio. The best characterised species are:

• Photobacterium phosphoreum*
• Photobacterium luciferum
• Vibrio fischeri
• Vibrio harveyi

I obtain these species from Department of Microbiology of University of Gdansk.

* - this bacterium was reclassified - now it is known as Vibrio phosphoreum
